Engagement season starts at Thanksgiving and ends around Valentine's Day and wedding season is traditionally June through September. If you, or someone you know, is currently planning a wedding, please read through some of the lessons I've learned in planning my clients' weddings as well as my own.

Don't Sweat The Small Stuff – It will get taken care of. Whether you hire a professional planner or have friends and family to help, everything will work itself out. Please don't take this piece of advice to mean the details don't count, because they do -- big time. In fact, the layers of details added to an event are what really make it stand out. Remember to not let the minutia get in the way of enjoying the engagement process or the wedding itself, because that is easy to do.

Two Days To Go ... Let It Go – Hiring a wedding-planning professional has a number of benefits but probably the biggest perk is having someone to trust to take care all of the details. You've worked for months, sometimes even years, to put together the wedding of your dreams and now it is time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You will have family and friends coming into town that you haven't seen in a long time so it is important to take this time to enjoy each other's company. Rely on trusted friends or family members to make sure everything gets done so you can spend time with your future spouse, family and wedding guests.

Perfection Does Not Exist – Go into your wedding knowing it will not be perfect. Mistakes will be made by vendors or perhaps by someone in your wedding party or even a family member. What is important is to keep perspective that everything will still work out. Remember, your guests do not know all the exact intricate details of every part of your wedding day so if something is missing or different than you had planned then just do your best to accept it and move on. If it is a quick fix, your planner or trusted friend can help rectify the situation. More often than not it is best to focus on what is going according to plan along with the fact that YOU JUST GOT MARRIED. Enjoy!

Listen To Your Vendors – From the bakery to the photographer to the venue representative and wedding coordinator, you have hired every vendor for a reason. They do their job for a living, therefore they are professional and you feel comfortable entrusting them with one of the most important days of your life. If you do not agree with any of the previous statements then do not hire that vendor – find someone who fits the bill. Your vendors are in business because they know what they are doing. They have so many experiences with their specialty that they can share with you what works and, sometimes more importantly, what doesn’t. Take their opinions into consideration when making decisions that will affect not only you but them as well.

I hope the above information helps you with the next event you are planning. Whether it is a wedding or another type of event, the above four tips can be applied in order to help you keep perspective and enjoy your event.
