Top Trends & Traditions That Never Go Out Of Style

When planning a wedding there are so many options when deciding to go trendy, stay traditional or somehow combine the two. Below are the top trends of this wedding season, along with several traditions that never go out of style.

TRENDS

- Steel Grey - Every wedding season is punctuated with a popular color and this season is no exception. Steel grey is the "it" color for wedding attire, accessories and decor. Mix it with brightly colored accents to spike a spring or summer wedding or combine it with a muted color for a more dramatic effect in the fall or winter. This alternative neutral is very versatile.

- Green and Organic Weddings - Steel grey isn'’t the only color to take weddings by storm. Green, as in environmentally-friendly, is the new black. From decor and transportation to attire and food there are a variety of altruistic options. I've seen plant seeds in tuille bags with satin bows given as favors so guests can grow a tree or plant in their backyard or local park. Locally-produced, organically-grown cuisine is the biggest request for green weddings. This gesture is also a great way to showcase to your guest the agricultural specialties of the locale of your wedding. Green palettes for decor, attire and food have also grown in popularity. Using complimentary shades of green in linens, programs, flowers and more can enhance the message of going green.

- Donations to Charity - Who really needs one more set of Jordan almonds in a porcelain trinket? Going along with the trend for green weddings is the new trend of donating to charity. The most popular way to do this is instead of a favor being placed at each guest's seat using a placecard to convey the message that a donation to a particular charity (perhaps representative of a cause that the Newlyweds strongly support) has been made in each guest's honor. This is a great alternative favor idea for the socially-conscious couple.

Appetizer Receptions - Instead of a fancy five-course, plated meal, couples are now planning freestyle receptions where everyone can mix and mingle both with each other and with the menu. Spike your food selections with traditional favorites, such as shrimp with cocktail sauce, and then add splashes of more exotic fare to tempt your guests' palates. Everything from sushi to game meat to ethnic cuisine is acceptable and encouraged. Be sure to order enough food so that your guests don't leave hungry. Select a variety of flavors and textures in order to satisfy the most guests possible. From trays passed to stationed hors d'oeuvres the celebration of food is prevalent in many of today's weddings.

- Tradition - That's right – tradition is trendy! In that spirit, let's highlight some of the oldies but goodies...

TRADITION

- Roses - Bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces and corsages still showcase roses more often than any other flower.

- Personal Touches - Creating an environment that reflects the personality and essence of the Bride and Groom personalizes the wedding and invites the guests to celebrate the couples' intimate bond. Personally written vows, special songs and program dedications are just a few of the ways that couples can share their love with each other and the guests.

Being A Happy Couple - Letting your love shine through and not getting caught up in the stress of the minutia on your wedding day is not only a tradition but a hefty goal for all Brides- and Grooms-to-be. Basking in the glow of your wedding day and savoring the feeling of celebrating your love and affection for each other in the eyes of all your family and friends will never go out of style.
